NEWS FOR THE JUNE 11 & 12, 2005
50th REUNION

We are looking forward to seeing all of  you at our Fiftieth Killough Family Reunion to be held on June the 11th & 12th in Jacksonville, TX.  Fifty years ago, John Allen Killough got a group of Killoughs from all over the country together for the first "Killough Family Reunion."  A few years before, he made a trip to Jacksonville looking for the monument.  He chopped his way through very dense brush, trees and briars all around the area and finally found it in the woods.  Thanks to him and other fellow Killough's hard work, this Killough Reunion Association came into being.

We will have use of the big meeting room in the same motel, now called "America's Best Value Inn",  1407 East Rusk, Jacksonville, formerly "Best Western" and then "Ramada."  It is attached to the "Hot Biscuit Restaurant" and all the activities will take place there, except the banquet which will be at the "Larissa House" Saturday night at 6:00 PM.  There are currently some rooms available at  "America's Best Value Inns", 1407 East Rusk, Jacksonville, Tx,   75766, 903-586-9841.

REGISTRATION

On Saturday morning at 9:00 AM, we will have registration for the Reunion and make your Menu choices for the banquet at the "Larissa House."  You will also have a chance to visit with your "Killough Cousins."  There will be a vast collection of pictures, scrapbooks, old newspaper clippings of accounts of the massacre, posters, and etc.  Be sure to bring any pictures and memorabilia on the Family History that you would like to share.  We will again have our “Killough Family Baking Contest."  Be sure to bring your favorite baked cakes, pies cookies, etc. for the judging and you may win 1st, 2nd or 3rd prize!  There will be raffle tickets sold at this time and the winner will be announced at the banquet at the "Larissa House."

BOARD MEETING

There will be an Executive Board Meeting at 1:00 PM.

ASSOCIATION MEETING

There will be an informative Association Meeting at 2:00 PM for all the members to attend.  Due to health concerns it is with sadness that we will need to find new Board Members to replace our Historian, Zora Killough Cunningham, and our Treasure, Jean Cannon.  Both of these ladies have worked tirelessly for our organization and we will miss their help.

LARISSA HOUSE BANQUET

We will meet at the "Larissa House", 301 W. Larissa St. at 6:00 PM Saturday for great food, a raffle, lots of door prizes and an interesting program.  There will be a silent auction again this year.  If you have any items to donate they will be appreciated.  This is a good fundraiser for the Association and the profits are used for Cemetery & Monument care.  This year there will be a 50th Anniversary Photo CD available.  Janet Green has asked that everyone who has a photo that they would like to have on the CD to please send her a copy by May 15.  Here address is PO Box 598, Bedias, TX,  77831.

KILLOUGH MASSACRE BOOK

There have been inquiries about the book “The Killough Massacre," by Jack Moor.  We have had it reprinted and it will be available for $5.00 at the Reunion.

SUNDAY MORNING PROGRAM

On Sunday morning at 9:30 AM, we will meet at the Motel Meeting Room for a short program after breakfast and then caravan to the Cemetery for a Memorial Service and Picture Taking.  After the tour we'll all say our goodbyes and go our separate ways.

FAMILY DUES

Thanks to all that have sent in your 2005 dues of $10.00 per family.  If you cannot come to the Reunion, please remember to send in your dues.  Without your support each year, the Organization couldn't function.  Please send your dues to Liz Killough.  Her address is 270 Piney Point, Murchison, TX,  75778.

THANK YOU

We are happy to report that the Cemetery and surrounding areas look lovely.  There has been only one incidence of minor vandalism there since last Fall.  When repeated problems kept occurring, John and Elizabeth Killough and Marlena and Carl Phillips volunteered to mow, clean, repair and replace whatever had been damaged.  Many thanks for all their hard work.  their philosophy is that as long as the Cemetery looks well cared for and people are there often, it is less likely to be mistreated.
