KILLOUGH BIENNIAL GATHERING
AT JACKSONVILLE, TEXAS

It’s that time of year again!  The biennial gathering of the Killough families is gearing up for another exciting reunion.  We have some activities going on at this year’s reunion and we hope you’ll make plans to come and join us.  If you’re an “old timer” at the reunions –you know the routine, but if you’re a newcomer, here’s the plan—

First, Make sure you get your reservations made at the Ramada Inn (formerly the Best Western) in Jacksonville for the weekend of June 13-15th. The rooms are going quickly, so don’t delay. The motel will give a group rate of $49.00 per room if reservations are made over the internet until April 30th because there are other reunions and the Tomato festival the same weekend. We’re going to have the  “3rd Annual Killough Baking Contest”.  Be sure and bring your best baked goodies—cakes, pies, cookies, breads, for the contest judging and prize awarding AND the Saturday afternoon “eating”. This has been a treat for our Saturday afternoon and I think the Judges enjoy it!!!

Second, be sure and bring all the family you can, and from as far away as possible.  Bring the oldest Killough and the newest Killough

as prizes will be awarded for these four categories.

Third, we’re having a silent auction again this year.  I think everyone enjoyed this and really took home some nice treasures. Bidding was fierce last time and we look for more of the same this time.  All proceeds will go to the KILLOUGH MASSACRE MEMORIAL SITE, INC. fund. (And while we’re speaking of the memorial, The people of Jacksonville are cleaning the cemetery and memorial for us again this year.)

Fourth,  the Saturday evening dinner will be held at the Larissa House Restaurant at 6:30 P.M. and will cost $13.50 per person. (More later)

And Fifth, plan to come and have a great time meeting your “cousins” and learning about your heritage of the Killough family.  We will have lots of newcomers this year and we want to make them feel real welcome.

FAMILY DUES

Many thanks to all of you who have sent in your 2000 contributions of $10.00 per family.  Without your financial support each year, the organization can’t function.  When you can’t come to the reunion, please remember to send your dues to Jean Cannon, Treas., 806 Neches, Tyler, Tx, 75702.

1997 EDITION OF THE KILLOUGH
FAMILY HISTORY AND GENEALOGY

You will be proud to own the beautiful newest edition of The Killough Family in Ireland, Canada and The United States, which will be available at the reunion in Jacksonville for $28.00.

Though no more editions of the Killough book in its entirety are expected to be published, data to be used by Killough researchers is still being accepted by the historian, Zora Killough Cunningham and her assistants.  Bring to the reunion additional material you have on your family, as well as corrections.  If you have been doing research on your family through the Internet, be prepared to share your knowledge of how you do it.

 KILLOUGH’S IN THE MILITARY

We have a lot of Killough’s serving in the military right now and we would like to have a special dedication to the men and women. Please bring your photos for the special table.

KILLOUGH WEB SITE ON LINE AGAIN!!

After 15 months of being unable to re-establish our www.killough.org web site, we are now online.  Kenneth Kalloch (ancestors were Killoughs) of Concord, NH, will be our webmaster until we can find another member of the family to do it.  He is webmaster for the Kalloch Reunion Assoc. site (http://kalloch.accessgenealogy.com) and has volunteered to keep ours going also.  He is quite knowledgeable in this area and generous with his time and efforts for our benefit at no cost to us.  As editor of the web site, I invite and urge you to send articles (stories, announcements, personals) to me, Zora Cunningham, by e-mail or regular mail.

NEWS FROM THE HISTORIAN

I am sorry that things have been moving so slowly since I started having severe heart problems a year and a half ago but things are looking up now.  I am continuing to hold the office of Historian for the Killough Reunion Association but have turned over most of the work to wonderful volunteer assistants who will continue collecting updates or corrections to the 1997 edition of the KILLOUGH FAMILY book.  Keeping track of Killough generations has been an important goal of this group of Killoughs ever since its origination in 1953.  There is no other organization doing this in such an all-encompassing way.

Our immediate goal is to produce a CDROM of all the information we had collected up to September 2002.  Jason Killough of Virginia has taken on this project.  We hope to have it ready in time for the reunion in Jacksonville, TX, in June.  Data sent in after that time will be in a future CD.  It is important to keep the records as up-to-date as possible.

Please send your updates or first-time information for dates and places for births, dates and places for marriages, dates and places for deaths and burial, (obituaries are helpful) along with types of occupations and current cities of residence to one of the following Historian Assistants:

Covenanter branch of Ohio and Little Britain, PA, branch to Jim Killough, 5400 Walnut Ave. #810, Downers Grove, IL 60515, JIMMIEKILO@aol.com.

The Maine Branch is being collected by the Kallochs so we do not collect them.  Send information on the Ireland and Canada Branches to Kenneth Kalloch, 11 Joffre St., Concord, NH 03301, kdk44@juno.com.  He also keeps our records on More Killoughs, Killough families whom we are unable to connect to any specific branch.   If you don't know what branch you belong to, give him your data.  He will see that it gets to the right place.

The North Carolina/Arkansas Branches and the Rhea Co., TN and Montgomery Co., AL branches go to Daniel T. Killough, 9555 E. Shiloh St. #15203, Tucson, AZ 85748, danielkillough@cox.net.

The Old South Branches of Rutherford Co., TN and Livingston Co., KY go to Judy Bowers, 1007 Hillcrest Drive, Grove, Ok 74345, judyb@gcinet.net.

            MASTER LIST

A master list of all the Killoughs and Killough descendants known to us is maintained.  If you move to a new address or get a new e-mail address but wish us to stay in contact with you at least once a year, you have to send us your new address. Experience has shown that younger generations or other relatives in the family may become very interested in their family history and need you to pass the newsletter on to them.  To save us postage, please let us know if you are not interested in receiving the newsletter again.
